Understanding the On Demand Economy

Tap an app and summon your own staff – sounds revolutionary, right? On Demand and instant gratification economy that we live in today is demanding just that. While sometime ago this was the sole prerogative of the wealthy, many concurrent developments have democratized services and enabled entrepreneurs to create marketplaces providing these services at an affordable cost. Some of these developments being mobilization of technology, ability to leverage excess and idle capacity to supply these services and venture capital infusion in the on demand and aggregation marketplace based startups. What makes these startups disruptive is the fact that they make an existing way of interaction between the end users and the service providers much more efficient (We have created an infographic that helps you understand the On Demand Economy better).

As part of our mission to shine a light on the On Demand Economy, we will do an exhaustive analysis of one industry each week. We will talk about all the models used by sharing economy startups in that sector, and the ones that show potential but currently remain unexploited. All along the way we will provide examples of the current players that have already made it big, as well as the ones that are the next big thing.

This blog post will serve as a landing page for the content as we generate it. We are looking forward to this series and i hope you are too.
